Introduction to Google Drive

We will talk about the basics of how Google Drive works, plus look at Google Sheets, Docs, Slides, and Forms. Join us for beginner level ESL classes with instructor, Rehab Morsi. Rehab has her Masters Degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from Ball State University plus 8 years of experience teaching ESL. In these classes you will improve your English proficiency level by focusing on the five language skills: speaking, listening, writing, grammar and reading. Classes will focus on different aspects of the American culture and the language skills needed to work and communicate effectively in your daily life situations- including going to the doctor, opening a bank account, ordering food in a restaurant, writing simple emails...etc.

Introduction to HTML Part 1

Join us for a two-part class to learn the basics of the computer markup language HTML 5. Please sign up only if you are able to attend both sessions. When you register for the first class you are automatically enrolled in Part 2. Part 1 will take place on Wednesday, August 8 from 10:00-11:30am. Part 2 will take place on Wednesday, August 15 from 10:00-11:30am. You will need familiarity with the computer and intermediate internet skills to participate in the class. During the two weeks, topics covered will include basic page templates, formatting options, inserting images, creating links, styling background, text, fonts, and more.

Curious about how to use Facebook on your mobile device? Come to Hands-On Apps: Facebook to learn the basics of this social media app. These classes are designed to give you a hands-on look at how to navigate this app on your smartphone or tablet. Fishers Tween Drama

 The Tween Drama Club will hold a call out August 9th for grades 2-6. We will be doing "Picture This" vignettes based on classic picture books, complete with staging and costumes. Registration is required (25 limit) and the regular club begins August 16th and will meet the 2nd and 3rd Thursday of each month. Participation in all sessions helps you prepare for the final production. We will do skits, improv games, and reader's theater. The goals of the program are to learn about drama and the theater, improve communication skills, gain confidence in front of an audience, and mostly to have fun.

Genealogy Roundtable Focus on Online Family Trees

This "hands-on" class will offer a demonstration exploring how to search effectively three databases: Newspapers.com, FamilySearch.org, and Findagrave.com. After the demonstrations, there will be time to research your own ancestors. Participants are encouraged to bring family information and a flash drive to capture any images found when researching. Each participant will have access to a computer, so basic computer skills are necessary to enjoy this workshop. Registration is required.

Beginning American Sign Language Series

This series of five 2-hour sessions will expose students to the basics of American Sign Language (ASL). It is very important that you plan to attend all five sessions in order to receive the full benefit of this opportunity; please check your calendar before committing to the series. Class will meet each Thurs. evening from August 30 - Sept. 27 from 6:30 - 8:30 PM with a 15-min. break. The intended student is a hearing adult (age 18 and up) with no prior ASL knowledge. We will cover: Introductions, Getting to know you, Cardinal numbers, Fingerspelling & Vocabulary, Giving commands, Identifying objects, Culture, Getting attention, Telling where you live, and Other Directional basics.

Fishers Ukulele Club

Come and learn to play the ukulele with us at our new club! This club is for beginners, ages 8 and up. We will focus on the following: how to hold the uke, how to tune it, how to read chord charts, and how to play simple songs with one, two, and three chords. There will be five ukuleles available for use at the library during class. Those interested in using a library uke should sign up at the children's reference desk or call youth services one week prior to each class. All others may bring their own ukulele instrument. Registration is required.
