The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Announces Corporate Walk Chair for 2018 Indianapolis Light The Night Walk |
|
(Indianapolis, IN) – The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is pleased to announce Meghann York, Director of Product Marketing at Salesforce, as the 2018 Light The Night Corporate Walk Chair in Indianapolis. York will lead Light The Night on its bold quest to crack the million dollar fundraising mark for the first time.
York got involved with LLS for reasons close to her heart. “My mom has been bravely battling lymphoma for the last two years,” she said. “I can’t think of a better way to honor her fight than to raise money and awareness for the organization that WILL find a cure.”
LLS and Light The Night bring light to the darkness of a cancer diagnosis through its mission to end blood cancer. Friends, families and co-workers gather together to celebrate, honor or remember those touched by cancer. Walk participants carry illuminated lanterns–white in honor of survivors and the hope that lies in research, red in support of patients and gold in remembrance of those who have been lost.
“In 2018, Light The Night has set an exciting goal to raise $1 million in the Indianapolis community,” said Kathy Pelletier, Campaign Director for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. “Meghann has the perfect amount of passion and enthusiasm for the LLS mission to ensure we reach our goal, and Salesforce has proven to be indispensable partner in the successful fight against blood cancers, reaching new heights in walker participation and fundraising.”
Since getting involved with LLS and Light The Night in 2016, Meghann has made a significant impact on the mission to fund cures and support patients and families. In 2017, Meghann personally raised $35,000 and helped lead the Indianapolis Salesforce team to an Indiana chapter record-breaking total of $77,000.
“I was blown away to find out that LLS had a part in funding 15 of the last FDA-approved blood cancer treatments,” said York. “When we support LLS, we’re not just touching the lives of those affected by blood cancer, but all cancers.”
“If we come together as a community, we can make huge strides and put Indianapolis on the map for its commitment to a cure. I could not be more proud to represent Salesforce in helping the mission of LLS.”
About The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
The work that LLS is doing in the blood cancers not only is advancing life-saving treatments and cures for the 1.3 million Americans with a blood cancer, but, importantly, it is helping patients with other cancers, including bone, prostate, brain, breast and ovarian cancers. That’s why we’re the only organization that can say beating cancer is in our blood. Not only is blood the starting place to find cures for cancer, but it is in our DNA–it is what we do at LLS, the first and largest nonprofit health organization in the world dedicated to fighting blood cancers.
