Weaving 101

Paper is a fun and easy material with which to learn the basic steps of weaving. We will combine two pieces of contrasting-colored card-stock to create checkerboard note cards. While doing so, we will learn some weaving terminology. If you enjoy this class, watch for a future weaving class, where we will take our weaving skills to a slightly higher level. Stay tuned!

In these classes you will improve your English proficiency level by focusing on the five language skills: speaking, listening, writing, grammar and reading. Classes will focus on different aspects of the American culture and the language skills needed to work and communicate effectively in your daily life situations- including going to the doctor, opening a bank account, ordering food in a restaurant, writing simple emails...etc.

Ignite Studio is teaming up with Nickel Plate Arts to present the 5th Annual Comic Book in a Day Festival, a 12-hour event full of creativity, art, literature, and adventure! The event includes drawing demonstrations, comic art for sale, comic-art-themed crafts, and ‘Super Hero University,’ an adventure program for young children. Professional comic artists will be on hand to demonstrate their skills, guide budding artists, and chat about the comic industry. Artists of all ages and skill levels are invited to participate in Comic Book in a Day Challenge, a contest to create a comic book from scratch in 12 hours. Artists interested in registering to compete in the 12 hour challenge can visit the Nickel Plate Arts website for more details.

Participants are encouraged to bring in samples of newspaper notices about their ancestors that are not obituaries, such as an ad, involvement in an organization, a military service notice, or a marriage, divorce, or birth announcements. This is an informal discussion group and registration is not necessary to join the conversation.

The Tween Drama Club will hold a call out August 9th for grades 2-6. We will be doing "Picture This" vignettes based on classic picture books, complete with staging and costumes. Registration is required (25 limit) and the regular club begins August 16th and will meet the 2nd and 3rd Thursday of each month. Participation in all sessions helps you prepare for the final production. We will do skits, improv games, and reader's theater. The goals of the program are to learn about drama and the theater, improve communication skills, gain confidence in front of an audience, and mostly to have fun.

This dynamic portrayal by the performer considers the creative process in depth, comparing different versions of and putting Shelley's life as a 19th-century literary woman into historical context. Ukulele Club

Come and learn to play the ukulele with us at our new club! This club is for beginners, ages 8 and up. We will focus on the following: how to hold the uke, how to tune it, how to read chord charts, and how to play simple songs with one, two, and three chords. There will be five ukuleles available for use at the library during class. Those interested in using a library uke should sign up at the children's reference desk or call youth services one week prior to each class. All others may bring their own ukulele instrument. Registration is required.

Rehab has her Masters Degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from Ball State University plus 8 years of experience teaching ESL. In these classes you will improve your English proficiency level by focusing on the five language skills: speaking, listening, writing, grammar and reading. Classes will focus on different aspects of the American culture and the language skills needed to work and communicate effectively in your daily life situations- including going to the doctor, opening a bank account, ordering food in a restaurant, writing simple emails...etc.

What's It Worth? An Antique Appraisal Event

If you have several antique items lying around your house, it may be time to see how much they are worth! Author and Antiques Roadshow contributor, Mark Moran, will be appraising your items for a special evening in the library. Sign up today with a description of your item to get on the list of appraisals! Registration is required if you are having an item appraised. Only one item per person will be appraised; all items will be subject to approval before the event. Unacceptable items include weapons, traps, coins and paper money, Nazi memorabilia, fine jewelry, including precious gems, and Beanie Babies. The room will be open to the public to view the appraising.
