Rowland Design has been awarded the 2019 AIA Firm of the Year!

FIRM OF THE YEAR
The AIA Indiana Distinguished Firm Award was created to recognize a Member Firm which, through consistent leadership, vision and ability, has distinguished itself through design and implementation of works of architecture that enhance the quality of our environment.

ROWLAND DESIGN
Now into its fifth decade, Rowland Design’s current business is the delivery of architecture, interior design, and experiential design, though it wasn’t always that way. When Sallie Rowland and partner Bill Hawkins founded the company in 1964, it was a commercial interior design company. Sallie became sole owner in 1977, and the company grew into the largest commercial design firm in Indianapolis and one of the top 100 in North America. Architectural services weren’t added until 1994, when Eric Rowland joined the firm. He is now chief architect and one of the company’s principals. Eric is a past president of AIA Indianapolis. After Sallie retired in 2003, leadership transferred to Sarah Schwartzkopf, Tricia Trick-Eckert, JillRose, Eric Rowland, and Randy Veatch, continuing as a majority women ownership. The company takes great pride in the fact it’s always been a women-owned business.
Rowland Design’s influence can be seen throughout the Indianapolis metro area. The firm has been involved in every Indianapolis major sporting facility including The RCA Dome, The Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Banker’s Life Fieldhouse, Victory Field and Lucas Oil Stadium.

Rowland Design is honored to have received this prestigious award and is grateful to its many clients and opportunities that allow them to make a great impact on Indiana’s built environment.
