Good Samaritan Network - Critical Additional Funding Giving Tuesday

GSN has launched a fundraising effort as part of its givingtuesdayNOW campaign targeting a minimum goal of $50,000 immediately, and just as importantly, working to engage recurring donors to help us serve Hamilton county families with critical programming and services, including the COVID 19 crisis and its aftermath. Gifts are tax-deductible and can be made by check or online by using our DonateNOW effort and our Made For This Moment Gofundme charity campaign.

As a non-profit 501c3 charity our funding source is primarily made up of individuals, businesses, and community donors, besides any approved grants we can secure. Nancy Chance said, “We are especially grateful for various individuals, businesses, and organizations who have assisted us recently during this financially draining time, but now, more than ever, we need to be bold in asking for financial support so we can continue to assist those in need!”

Since 1980 Good Samaritan Network has consistently developed programs and services impacting under-served and at-risk Hamilton County families - which often involve an emergency or crisis intervention.

Meeting the needs of people with urgent life issues typically includes: food or shelter insecurities, utilities/financial assistance, medical, education, transportation, and more! It also includes Holiday Assistance, which is one of our collaborative signature services reaching over 46,000 people annually for Thanksgiving and Christmas, with holiday food, meals, clothing, and gifts.

Every month we receive testimonials and stories from those we serve. Just this past week we received this one:

“Will there be Holiday assistance? I am asking because my daughter and my 3 grandchildren have come to live with me due to the financial issues because of Covid 19. I am on disability because of a brain tumor and was just planning ahead. Thank you for helping those in need – myself and others! The world is a better place because of people like you.”

We’ve heard the African proverb it takes a “village” – meaning the entire community must become engaged and supportive of a specific goal. This is especially true in an emergency or disaster.

From the very beginning, we have worked persistently to collaborate and develop a cohesive network of Hamilton County non-profits, pantries, and agencies within our community who serve countless households in need.

“Families and Hamilton County agencies have so much need right now, it feels like this is the moment that Good Samaritan Network was made for,” said founder and Executive Director, Nancy Chance. She went on to say, “Now is the time we need those who can to be generous!”

Over the last several years we have emphasized emergency and disaster preparedness discussions, training, and programing; ultimately developing the first Hamilton County COAD (Community Organization Active in Disaster). This is a collaborative network of organizations, agencies, individuals, businesses, and others - which work to minimize the effects of a disaster. They have been working diligently in our community during Covid 19!

Americans spend an average $660 a month for food alone and more than twice that on housing, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics data from 2018. With the devastating impact of this pandemic, countless households in Hamilton County are not able to keep up.

Nancy Chance said, “We are so grateful for the compassion and kindness we see in our community, and for those who are helping us help families during this incredibly difficult time in history.” She went on to say, “Besides this unprecedented immediate need, we must plan ahead and be ready for the aftermath!”

We are doing our best to direct our clients and to ensure food pantries have food while we support those in need of rent or utility assistance with the limited funds we have available. Your tax-deductible gift will help us touch the lives of Hamilton County families – for the good!
