Carmel Symphony Orchestra Brass Quintet to Celebrate the Fourth at Carmel Farmers Market

CARMEL, IN – Musicians from the Carmel Symphony Orchestra (CSO) will help Carmel residents and visitors celebrate Independence Day by performing for guests at the Carmel Farmers Market on Saturday, July 4. The full orchestra typically plays each year for the fireworks; however, due to changes made in response to COVID-19, the Brass Quintet will allow the CSO to continue the tradition of being a part of the July 4th celebration in Carmel. Patriotic melodies will be performed from 8:15 to 11:15 a.m.
Luci Snyder, CSO Board Chair, will kick off the fun by ringing the bell to open the Farmers Market at 8 a.m. The Quintet will perform from the amphitheater on the east side of the Carter Green lawn.
“This is a unique year for the Carmel Farmers Market and we are thrilled to be part of it,” said Snyder. “In previous years, the Farmers Market has not been open on the fourth due to CarmelFest and other activities sharing the same venue. With the cancellation of CarmelFest this year due to COVID-19 restrictions, this opportunity opened for the market and for us to play a small role in helping celebrate our nation’s independence.”
The musicians performing at the market are part of the CSO Brass Quintet. The list includes Dan Price, trumpet; Bob Bonner, trumpet; Dave Poncar, horn; Larry Lawhead, trombone; and Andy Meyer, tuba. Art Reiner will join the CSO members on percussion.

The Quintet will perform 8 sets of songs including many traditional patriotic tunes like Stars & Stripes, God Bless America and Yankee Doodle. They will also honor Hoosiers with Back Home Again in Indiana as well as pay tribute to our servicemen with the Armed Forces Salute, which includes all the service hymns.

These performances, along with the Carmel Farmers Market, are free and open to the public.
